Chapter Twenty-One

Zayn

“Here you go, Roman.” Abby sets a heaping plate of pancakes in front of my brother, and he eagerly dives in. She made a second batch especially for him, and from the way he’s smiling at her, it’s obvious I’m already fighting a losing battle. I think my little brother is halfway in love with our older brother’s wife after less than twenty-four hours.

“Thanks, Abby. These are the best.”

“I’ll add it to your list of favorites alongside my hot chocolate.”

“You didn’t!” Xavier looks up from his tablet with horror etched upon his face. “Please tell me you didn’t make him my special hot chocolate.”

Kaiden and Sawyer roll their eyes, and Drew stifles a yawn, looking thoroughly bored.

“It was the best damn hot chocolate ever. It had sprinkles and marshmallows and everything,” Ro admits in between wolfing down pancakes.

“Blasphemy!” Xavier yells, pouting at Abby. I still don’t know what to make of the eccentric genius. “But I’ll forgive you because Roman is a sweetie, and he deserves all the hot chocolate in the world.”

Ro’s cheeks flush, and Abby quickly changes the subject to spare his blushes. “Have you heard back from Joaquin or Harley?” she asks Kaiden.

“I spoke to them on my way back from the gym. They’re gonna drop by in a bit unless you’d like to see the house?” His gaze bounces between me and Roman.

“What house?” Ro asks in between bites of the buttery chocolate goodness. Despite my churning stomach, I managed to eat a few with some chopped fruit and yogurt. Abby sure knows how to whip up a mean pancake.

“Our other brothers live at the Anderson family home. It’s where we grew up before shit hit the fan.” His expression sobers as he looks between us. “We can go to them if you’d like to see it. Or if it’s too much too soon, the guys can come here.”

I wonder if the evidence might be there? This might be a good opportunity to check out the lay of the land. “I’d like to see it, but it depends on Ro.” I won’t force my brother to go if it’ll upset him.

“Yeah, I’d like to see it too.”

“Okay, that’s settled. I’ll call Harley, and we’ll leave in an hour.”
